I made this hand-drawn botanical illustration, with colored pencils, after visiting the island of Lampedusa in southern Italy. In such a harsh and dry environment, the few plants able to grow and bloom were true gems. The lush green leaves and pink and yellow flowers of these bushes caught my eye and inspired me deeply. I called this illustration MEDITERRANEAN SCRUB, paying homage to the characteristic mix of small plants and bushes native of southern Italy.
I submitted this piece of art to Minted's 2022 Paintings, Drawings and Mixed Media Challenge, and imagine my joy when it was selected among the winners! Now, it's available as a limited edition fine art print exclusive to Minted, offered in different sizes, and it was also featured in their 2024 Botanical Calendar.
